For the spokesperson for the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, Laura Alonso, the criticisms made by Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, the current head of government, were surprising and aggressive. This situation arose after Rodríguez Larreta announced his decision to participate in this year's legislative elections, although it is still unspecified whether he will compete in the local elections in May or in the national elections in October.
Alonso stated: "We govern the City; Jorge Macri was elected with strong support. We know the challenges we face, such as security, urban planning, economic development, education... That occupies 99.9 percent of our focus." The official emphasized that the management focuses on fundamental issues and that the rest are political discussions that do not concern them as they have to deal with daily management.
In his statements, Rodríguez Larreta harshly criticized his successor, Jorge Macri, for believing that the achievements made during his administration were fading due to the lack of maintenance in the city, the presence of potholes, and the absence of responses to the needs of the neighbors. Alonso also expressed her surprise at the aggression of Rodríguez Larreta's comments, especially since several members of his team have collaborated with both governments.
In response to the criticisms about insecurity in the City, Alonso defended the management, stating that they face real challenges and that it is unfair and inappropriate to focus on political disputes instead of working on concrete solutions. The lack of maintenance on the streets and the situation of federal crime prisoners who manage to escape from the police stations are urgent problems that require attention and resources to combat insecurity in the City of Buenos Aires.
